How to verify my meter configuration is correct
Use this step-by-step verification to confirm a meter is properly configured:
Step 1: Find the meter
Go to Buildings → select your building → Meters tab. Find the meter by name or meter number.
Step 2: Check basic properties
- Name: Is it clearly labeled? (e.g., "Main Electricity Meter")
- Meter number: Does it match the number on your physical meter or utility invoice?
- Type/Energy carrier: Is it set to the correct type? (electricity, heating, water, gas, etc.)
- Unit: Does the unit match your data source? (kWh, m³, etc.)
- Status: Must be "Active" for data to appear in dashboards
Step 3: Check assignment
- Assignment type: "Building" for main meters, "Tenant"/"Local" for sub-meters
- Building: Correct building selected?
- If it's a sub-meter: Is the parent meter set?
Step 4: Check data flow
- Go to Analytics → Data Import
- Find the data source linked to this meter
- Check the health indicator (green = receiving data, red = stale)
- Check the last import date
Step 5: Verify in dashboard
- Go to Analytics → Energy (or Water/Gas/Waste depending on meter type)
- Select the correct building
- Set the date range to when you know data exists
- The meter should appear in the chart and meter selector
If any step fails
- Wrong type? Edit the meter and change the energy carrier
- Inactive? Edit the meter and set status to "active"
- No data source? Set up a data import in Analytics → Data Import
- Not in dashboard? Check that assignment type and building are correct
