Common setup mistakes when configuring a new building

When setting up a new building in the platform, these are the most common mistakes that lead to missing data or incorrect reports:

1. No building locals (units) created

Without building locals, you can't assign tenants or calculate cost allocation. After creating the building, immediately add the units/spaces.
Fix: Buildings → select building → Units tab → Add Unit

2. No meters added

A building without meters has no consumption data. Add at least one main meter per utility type you want to track.
Fix: Buildings → select building → Meters tab → Add Meter

3. Meter type mismatch

Setting a heating meter as "electricity" or vice versa. Double-check the energy carrier when creating each meter.
Fix: Edit the meter and correct the type/energy carrier field

4. No data import source connected

Meters exist but no data flows in. You need to configure at least one data source.
Fix: Analytics → Data Import → set up CSV upload, API connection, or other import method

5. Tenants not assigned to locals

Tenants exist but aren't linked to any building units. Cost allocation can't calculate their share.
Fix: Tenant Hub → select tenant → assign to building locals

6. Cost allocation not configured

Even with meters, readings, and tenants, you need to set up the allocation method for each cost type.
Fix: Cost Allocation → select building → configure methods

7. Building area not set

Total area and rentable area must be set for occupancy calculations and area-based cost allocation.
Fix: Buildings → edit building → set Total Area and Rentable Area

Recommended setup order

  1. Create building (with areas)
  2. Add building locals (units)
  3. Add meters (with correct types and assignment)
  4. Set up data import sources
  5. Add tenants and assign to locals
  6. Configure cost allocation
