Why is my building overview chart showing less consumption than I expected?

If your building's consumption chart suddenly shows a lower total than before, it is likely because a main meter has been designated for one of your energy types.

How it works: When you mark a meter as the "main meter" (is_main_meter = true) for a given energy type, the building overview chart uses only that meter's readings. All other meters of the same type (sub-meters) are excluded from the chart to prevent double-counting. This is correct behavior — a main intake meter already includes the consumption of all sub-meters downstream.

Example: Your building has:

• Main electricity meter: 4,500 kWh/month (total building intake)
• Ventilation sub-meter: 2,400 kWh/month (part of the 4,500)

Without a main meter designation, the chart would incorrectly show 6,900 kWh (summing both). With the main meter set, it correctly shows 4,500 kWh.

If no main meter is set for an energy type, the chart falls back to summing all meters of that type — which is correct only when your meters do not overlap.

Checklist if values look wrong

1. Go to Analytics → Meters and select each meter for this building
2. Check the "Is Main Meter" toggle in the Meter Data panel
3. Verify that only the actual intake/main meter is marked as main
4. If sub-meters are incorrectly marked as main, click to toggle them off

When the chart shows an amber info banner ("Showing main meter totals only"), it means main-meter filtering is active. The banner lists which energy types are affected.

Where to check: Analytics → Meters → select meter → Is Main Meter toggle. Buildings → select building → Overview tab for the consumption chart.
