Why does my electricity invoice show a different price than the spot market?
Your tenant electricity invoice typically shows a higher total than the raw spot price because it includes several additional cost components. Understanding these helps you verify that billing is correct.
Components of an electricity invoice
-
Energiledd (Energy component) — the spot price per kWh from ENTSO-E for your price zone. This varies hourly and is the base cost of the electricity itself.
-
Effektledd (Power/capacity charge) — based on your peak power usage (kW) during the billing period. This is a grid operator charge for the capacity you draw, not the energy consumed.
-
Nettleie (Grid rental/network fee) — a per-kWh charge from the grid operator for transporting electricity. Set as network_fee_per_kwh in your price configuration.
-
Fixed monthly fee — a flat charge per meter per month from your grid operator. Set as fixed_monthly_fee in your price model.
-
ENOVA levy — a percentage-based surcharge (typically 1 øre/kWh) added to support energy efficiency programs. Configured as a percentage line in the price model.
-
VAT (MVA) — 25% in Norway, applied to the subtotal of all components above.
Example breakdown for a tenant using 5,000 kWh in NO1
- Spot price average: 85 øre/kWh → 4,250 NOK
- Grid rental: 25 øre/kWh → 1,250 NOK
- Power charge: 150 NOK/kW × 20 kW peak → 3,000 NOK
- Fixed fee: 250 NOK
- Subtotal: 8,750 NOK
- VAT 25%: 2,187.50 NOK
- Total: 10,937.50 NOK
Where to configure: Billing → Price Models → edit or create a price model with the correct unit lines for your grid operator and contract. Each line has a source_type (consumption, power_peak, fixed, or percentage) and a default_price.
