How do I get consumption data to show in the Energy dashboard?
To see consumption bars in the Energy dashboard, you need to complete a chain of setup steps. Here is the full path from zero to visible chart data:
Step 1 — Create a building
Go to Buildings → Add Building. Set the name, address, total area, and rentable area.
Step 2 — Create meters for the building
Go to Buildings → select your building → Meters tab → Add Meter.
For each utility you want to track, create a meter with:
- Meter number: Use the exact number from your utility invoice or physical meter (e.g., "707057500012345"). This enables automatic invoice matching later.
- Meter type: Select the correct energy carrier (electricity, heating, gas, water, etc.)
- Assignment type: Set to "Building" for main meters that measure total building consumption.
- Status: Must be "Active" for data to appear in dashboards.
Step 3 — Feed data to the meter (choose one method)
Option A — Upload utility invoices (simplest start)
Go to Invoices → Upload. Drop your PDF utility invoice. The system extracts consumption, meter number, and billing period using OCR. If the extracted meter_number matches a meter you created, the invoice is automatically linked and its consumption appears in the chart.
Option B — Import CSV data
Go to Analytics → Data Import → Manual File Upload and drop the file. Columns are detected for you.
Option C — Connect a live API connection or webhook
Go to Analytics → Data Import and configure an automatic data source.
Step 4 — Verify in the dashboard
Go to Analytics → Energy → select your building from the dropdown → set the date range to cover your data period. You should see colored bars.
Most common reason for an empty chart: The meter was created but no data source is connected — no invoices uploaded, no CSV imported, no API configured. The meter exists but has zero readings.
