How do I set a meter as the main intake meter for my building?

You can mark any meter as the main (intake) meter for its energy type. This controls how the building overview consumption chart aggregates data and prevents double-counting with sub-meters.

From Analytics → Meters

  1. Go to Analytics → Meters in the sidebar
  2. Select the meter you want to designate as main
  3. In the Meter Data panel, find the "Is Main Meter" row
  4. Click the toggle button — it changes from "No" (gray) to "Yes" (amber)
  5. The change saves immediately

From Buildings → Meters tab

  1. Go to Buildings → select your building → Meters tab
  2. Click the edit (pencil) icon on the meter
  3. In the edit modal, check the "Main Meter" checkbox
  4. Save the changes

Important rules

  • You can have multiple main meters on a building — but only one per energy type makes sense for the overview chart. If you mark two electricity meters as main, both will be summed in the chart.
  • Setting a meter as main does not change the meter topology (parent-child relationships). Those are separate concepts: topology controls the hierarchy view in Formula Meters, while is_main_meter controls the building overview chart aggregation.
  • Sub-meters should NOT be marked as main — only the intake meter that represents total building consumption for that energy type.

When to use: Mark a meter as main when it is the utility company's intake meter or the single point-of-delivery meter that captures all consumption for its energy type. Leave sub-meters (tenant meters, floor meters, equipment meters) unmarked.
