Does changing my currency setting convert existing invoice amounts?

No. Your account currency setting and invoice currencies are independent. Understanding this distinction prevents confusion:

Account currency setting (your preference)

Configured in Settings → Localization → Currency. This controls how the interface formats monetary values — which currency symbol to show, how many decimals, and which number formatting convention to use. It is a display preference.

Invoice currency (from the document)

When you upload an invoice PDF, the system extracts the currency printed on the invoice. Each invoice stores its own currency code (e.g., NOK, EUR, USD). This is the actual currency the invoice was issued in.

What happens when they differ

If your account currency is set to EUR but you upload a Norwegian invoice in NOK, the system stores the invoice in NOK (the document's currency). The platform does not perform automatic currency conversion. The invoice amount remains in NOK because that is what you actually owe the utility provider.

Why it works this way

Currency conversion rates fluctuate daily. Automatically converting would introduce inaccuracies and make it impossible to reconcile with your actual utility bills. The system preserves the original invoice currency so your records match exactly what the utility company charged.

Practical advice

• Set your account currency to match the currency most of your invoices are in (e.g., NOK if you manage Norwegian buildings)
• If you manage buildings in multiple countries, be aware that each invoice retains its original currency
• The Energy dashboard consumption charts show energy units (kWh, m³), not monetary amounts, so currency does not affect chart data
