Can other tenants see my conversations with the building owner?
No — conversations between a tenant and the building owner are completely private. Other tenants cannot see your messages, and you cannot see theirs.
How conversations work
The platform uses a threaded messaging system. Each conversation (communication) is linked to a specific tenant_id and building_id. Only the tenant who created the message and the building owner/manager can see it.
Privacy guarantees
- Every message is stored with your tenant_id and the building's account_id
- The database enforces row-level security (RLS) — tenant portal users can only query messages where tenant_id matches their own tenant
- There is no shared inbox or group chat between tenants
- Building owners see all conversations across their tenants, but each tenant only sees their own thread
What you can do as a tenant
- Start a new conversation with a subject and message
- Choose a message type: general inquiry, maintenance request, feedback, or complaint
- Set priority (low, normal, high, urgent)
- Reply within an existing thread — all replies stay in the same conversation
- See read status — whether the owner has read your message
What the building owner sees
- All conversations from all tenants, organized by building
- Read/unread status per conversation
- Ability to reply, archive, or escalate messages
Announcements are different from conversations
- Announcements are one-way (owner → tenants) and can be broadcast to many tenants
- Conversations are two-way (tenant ↔ owner) and are always private to one tenant
- If you received an announcement, other targeted tenants also received it — but your reply or conversation about it is private
Where to access: In the tenant portal, go to Issues/Messages to view and create conversations.
