Why does my report show no data or empty charts?
If you generate a report and it comes back with empty charts, zero values, or a "No data" message, work through this checklist:
1. Check the time period
The report's selected period must overlap with when your data exists. If you have invoices for January–March but generate a report for April, it will be empty. Adjust the period filter in the Reports tab bar or in the Report Builder's configuration.
2. Check building selection
Make sure you have selected a building that has data. If "All Buildings" is selected but no buildings have invoices or meter readings for the period, the report will be empty. Try selecting a specific building you know has data.
3. Check that invoices or meter data exist
Reports pull data from two sources:
- Uploaded utility invoices (go to Invoices to verify you have bills for the period)
- Meter readings from the analytics engine (go to Analytics → Energy to verify charts show data) If neither source has data for your selected building and period, the report has nothing to display.
4. Check the report modules
If you are using the Report Builder, verify you selected the right modules. For example, selecting only the "Water" module when you only have electricity data will produce an empty report.
5. Check data source preference
In the Report Builder, you can choose between auto, meter data, or invoice data as the source. If you select "meter" but only have invoice data (or vice versa), the report may come back empty. Use "auto" to let the system use whichever source has data.
6. New user with no data yet?
If you just created your account, start by creating a building, adding meters, and uploading at least one utility invoice. The Reports welcome screen guides you through this process.
Where to check: Invoices page for uploaded bills. Analytics → Energy for meter data. Reports → Overview to verify the period filter.
