How do I connect meters in the topology to create a parent-child hierarchy?
You create parent-child meter relationships in the topology view. A parent meter represents the total (e.g., building main electricity meter) and child meters represent sub-measurements (e.g., tenant meters, floor meters).
Canvas view — drag to connect
- Go to Analytics → Formula Meters and select the Canvas view
- Find the parent meter card (the main/total meter)
- Drag from the cyan circle at the bottom of the parent card to the cyan circle at the top of the child card
- Release — the system creates the parent-child relationship and draws an arrow
- The child meter now shows its topology level (L1 if directly under a main meter)
Table view — dropdown to connect
- Switch to Table view
- Find the child meter row
- Click the "Parent Meter" column — a dropdown appears with all available meters
- Select the parent meter from the list
- The system updates the relationship and recalculates the hierarchy
Removing a connection
- Canvas: Click the arrow/connection line, then confirm deletion in the popup
- Table: Click the parent cell and select "None" or clear the selection
Rules the system enforces
- A meter cannot be its own parent
- Circular references are blocked (if A is parent of B, B cannot be parent of A)
- Each meter can have only one parent (but a parent can have multiple children)
- Parent and child must belong to the same account
Where to access: Analytics → Formula Meters → Canvas or Table view.
