What are the limitations and disclaimers for the Spot Price Surcharge Analysis?

The Spot Price Surcharge Analysis is provided as an informational tool only. It is not financial advice, not legal advice, and not a certified energy analysis. Please read these limitations before acting on any result.

What this tool IS

  • A calculator that estimates the difference between your invoice unit rate and the raw wholesale spot price
  • A starting point for your own investigation into your electricity costs
  • An Analytics feature to help you ask better, more informed questions of your energy provider

What this tool IS NOT

  • A certified, audited, or legally verified analysis
  • Financial or energy procurement advice
  • Grounds for a billing dispute, legal claim, or regulatory complaint
  • A guarantee or statement that your supplier is charging above the market standard
  • A precise measurement of your actual supplier margin (which may include legitimate charges not visible in raw spot price data)

Known sources of estimation error

  • Grid tariffs, network charges, standing charges, taxes, and government levies are not separated from the commodity rate in many markets — the calculated "surcharge" may reflect legitimate charges rather than an excessive margin
  • Spot price data is sourced from third-party public APIs (ENTSO-E for Europe, EIA for the United States) and may contain gaps, delays, revisions, or inaccuracies beyond Inbilit's control
  • Invoice data quality depends entirely on what you have uploaded — incomplete or incorrectly structured invoices produce unreliable results
  • Timezone and settlement period differences between spot price markets and your billing cycle can introduce small errors
  • Your supplier may use a different price index, settlement method, or hedging strategy than the published spot price

Your responsibility: By using this feature you confirm that you understand its limitations, that you will verify results independently before acting on them, and that you accept sole responsibility for any decisions, communications, or contractual changes you make based on its output.
