How do I connect EMU Metering, Carlo Gavazzi, or other sub-meter hardware to Inbilit?

EMU Metering, Carlo Gavazzi, and similar manufacturers produce standalone energy sub-meters often used for tenant electricity metering in commercial buildings. These meters typically connect to a local data logger or gateway.

EMU Metering (EMU Professional, EMU Allrounder)

EMU meters support several communication protocols:

  1. M-Bus: If connected to an M-Bus gateway (like Elvaco CMe), the data flows through the gateway — see the Elvaco connection guide
  2. Modbus TCP/RTU: Requires a gateway that reads Modbus and either exposes a REST API or POSTs the readings — use API or Webhook import in Inbilit
  3. EMU Cloud: If you use EMU's cloud portal, check for API access or CSV export
  4. Direct CSV: Some EMU setups log to USB or SD card — export the CSV and use File Upload

Carlo Gavazzi (EM24, EM340, UWP series)

Carlo Gavazzi meters with the UWP gateway have a built-in web server:

  1. UWP 4.0 gateway supports REST API and CSV export
  2. Access the UWP web interface and configure a scheduled CSV export or check for API documentation
  3. In Inbilit, use REST API (if API docs available) or File Upload/Email Import for CSV

Janitza (UMG series)

Janitza power analyzers offer their GridVis software:

  1. GridVis can export trend data as CSV files
  2. Set up scheduled exports and email delivery
  3. Use Email Import or File Upload in Inbilit

General pattern for standalone sub-meters

Most sub-meters do not connect directly to the internet. They need a gateway or logger in between:

  • Sub-meter → M-Bus gateway (Elvaco, MIVO) → Cloud portal → Inbilit (via API or CSV)
  • Sub-meter → Modbus gateway → HTTP push → Inbilit (via Webhook)
  • Sub-meter → BMS (Siemens, Honeywell, etc.) → CSV export → Inbilit (via File Upload)

Tip: Identify the gateway or BMS that reads your sub-meters. That is the system you connect to Inbilit — not the individual meter.
